ARRIS and Akamai Technologies Partner to Advance IP Video Delivery

ARRIS Group, Inc announced that it will offer Akamai Technologies’ Aura Licensed Content Delivery Network (LCDN) as part of its end-to-end IP video portfolio.

ARRIS will integrate Akamai’s LCDN and Aura Object Store into its leading IP video solutions—such as the ARRIS M3 Media Server, Spectrum CPC, and nDVR—to give operators a variety of choices for streamlining, managing, and scaling digital content delivery. It will also support operators as they adopt multiscreen and mobile delivery platforms.

The future of entertainment reflects changing consumer behaviors, which emphasize personalized content delivered to growing number of end devices. ARRIS’s annual Consumer Entertainment Index (CEI) captured many of those trends, including insight that 52 percent of consumers record programs to watch only the content they want, and that 62 percent are forced to delete programs because they’ve run out of space.

These trends and more are compelling operators to meet consumer demand through scalable, cloud-based delivery platforms—like ARRIS’s nDVR. By combining these IP solutions with Akamai’s LCDN, ARRIS is empowering operators to deliver content that’s as personalized as each end consumer and to scale that experience to millions of households.

“As customer expectations around TV viewing and video consumption change, Pay TV solutions must evolve as well. A key part of that evolution for network operators is the adoption of CDN technology as part of their overall solution. We’re pleased that ARRIS chose to partner with Akamai, recognizing the advantages of combining our Aura CDN solutions with their TV Everywhere products. We’re confident that the partnership with ARRIS will expand Akamai’s presence with network and cable operators and also help us scale from a support perspective,” said Mick Scully, vice president and general manager, Carrier Products, Akamai Technologies.

“Our partnership with Akamai empowers operators to capitalize on end-to-end HTTP video delivery at scale—giving consumers the personalized entertainment that they demand. Our combined solutions are broadening ARRIS’s capabilities in multiscreen IP video delivery, CDN-assisted VoD, and network DVR. Together, we’re inventing the future of content delivery,” said Peter Burke, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Video Systems at ARRIS.

ARRIS and Akamai Technologies will showcase the combined solutions with live demonstrations at TV Connect (London, U.K., 28th-30th April) and The Internet and Television Expo (INTX, Chicago, IL, 5th-7th May). The demonstrations will be shown in the ARRIS booth at both events.
